Title: server got rebooted
Post by: David on January 24, 2020, 12:41:41 PM
Just so everyone is aware, the main site got a reboot done either last night or earlier today. I apologize for the issue as it wasn't something that was planned but something done via the hosting service. Everything is back up and running.

Yeah, it seems the site server was rebooted for some reason. I'm looking into the matter. Once I get a bit more information I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Sorry for the issues. The chat rooms is back up now.

There seems to be an issue on the hosting provider that is being looked into. At this time that is all the information I have.
I'll keep everyone updated as soon as I get information.

On a site note for everyone...if the server continues to have these issues going forward after this situation is taken care of....I'll be looking into alternative methods. Even if that means looking to a new hosting provider to help. Normally I don't like doing this as it can lead to other smaller issues as well, however I'm trying to prevent as much downtime as possible. Normally everything is taken care of within 24/48 hours with this current so please remain patient. If I feel it won't get resolved sooner I'll take the next step.

Sorry everyone for the inconvenience

Ok everyone,

as I mentioned in regards of information once I got it. Here is the issue. For some odd reason the IP address that is required for the chat server to run with the setup I have currently, had expired on the hosts end. Not happy about that here for obvious reason. But because of this it is preventing the chat server to load properly. I'm waiting on a new IP, so I can make the configuration changes and get the chat portion back up and running.

Sometimes these things is out of my hands and I have to wait patiently just as much as you.

Thanks again for understanding....

quick update...

New IP Address has been assigned to the chat server. But because it involves the DNS, it could take up 24/48 hours for it to settle. Sometimes less for some. Once that is settled everything should be back up and running. The chat has been started so it is very possible that some might be able to access, while others can not.

Quick Update Everyone

The Rooms are back up for the time being but there might be a short down time coming soon to correct a small error. I will be just brief when I do reset the chat if I have to do that. Either way thank you all for your patience again...this one was out of my hands. And to be honest really frustrated me to be in this situation in the first place. If this continues to happen, as I said I'll start looking at other options. This host has been really good for some time though so I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

There was a few amount of manual configurations I had to do....and had to locate the issues. Which is another reason for the small delay time frame and with the new IP address I had to wait for the DNS to settle too on my end before I could get my hands dirty on some of the areas that was required to edit.

Hey David ,
Just something I’ve been hearing from a lot of people I try to get to visit my room is that folks that once used to be able to access the site now can’t anymore . I’ve tried to have them enter other rooms to make sure it isn’t just my room . I wonder if this has anything to do with the unexpected reboots of the server ?

Hello,

No, that wouldn't be the issue in this case. It was something to do with the main provider and an issue on their end of things.

However anyone who is having issues getting on can send me an email with the following information

Chat Name :
Current IP Address :

Ip address can be found at www.whatismyip.com

if having trouble sending an email through the form they can directly too

david [at] starlightchat [dot] com

or

starlightchat79 (at) gmail (dot) com

Just so everyone is aware yes the chat server was rebooted again. I'm not so sure this is toward the hosting provider in this case just yet so I'm monitoring over a few things to see if I can track down the issue. Keep in mind everyone I'm working with a software that is nearly 25 years old and is no longer updated either. So there will be bugs as other things do get updated.
